Richdiculous: Lamborghinis found to be using faked registrations after getting police escort

This weekend Lamborghini Club Indonesia had one of their regular convoys in which a group of the supercar owners can show off their ridiculous wealth to the common people of Jakarta with the comfort and convenience of a police escort.

However, some of us peasants who weren’t completely blinded by the extravagant display of automotive indulgence noticed that seven of the nine supercars in the convoy, which traveled together from SCBD to Serpong on Saturday, did not have front license plates – in violation of Indonesian vehicle laws.

When asked by Detik, Jakarta Traffic Subdirector Hindarsono admitted that  front and back license plates were required by Article No. 22 of the 2009 Law on Road Traffic and Road Transport.

“The regulations in our country require the use of front license plates. But the manufacturer does not provide a place for license plates in the front of their cars,” Hindarsono said.

This was the defense used by the President of Lamborghini Club Indonesia, Lal De Silva, as well – there’s simply no place to put a license plate on the front of Lamborghinis.

(Which is an odd thing to say, consider two of the seven Lamborghinis in the convoy did somehow manage to get front license plates mounted on their car. Maybe through magic?)

So the police shrugged off this violation of the law (presumably after getting “compensated” for doing their civic duty of providing escorts for a bunch of billionaires in their stupid expensive cars).

But the media, not happy with this result, decided to dig a little deeper. Tribunnews checked the license plates of all of the cars in the convoy to see if they were actually registered with the Jakarta Tax Office.

According to their findings, two of the Lamborghinis were simply not registered at all, specifically those with license plates B 13 DCI and B 7 DCI.

Perhaps even more shocking, some of the Lamborghinis were registered as different kinds of cars altogether. For example, a white Lamborghini with the license plate B 1796 TJH was registered as a Jeep. Unless it’s secretly a triple-changing Transformer, that’s definitely a case of tax evansion.

Ridiculously rich Lamborghini owners trying to save money by faking their registrations and avoiding taxes is hardly a new thing. Jakarta City Councilman and Ahok nemesis Abraham “Lulung” Lunggana was found to have a fake registration for his lime green Lambo, which also led to two other ‘ghinis with fake registrations being found.

We’ll see if Tribunnews findings will lead to any similar arrests, or whether the police will escort these supercar owners out of the way of the law as well.
